Aussie Animals & Phillip Island

After being home for nearly two months, I’m finally beginning to document my trip to Australia. While there are many wonderful memories, a highlight was definitely the adorable Aussie animals, namely koalas and little penguins. At Maru Koala and Animal Park, I got to see one of my favourite animals, the loveable koala. It was my second experience with one (the first when I was 10 during my first trip to Australia) but I was just as excited and giddy. I got a “fresh” koala -- he had just woken up from a nap (koalas are only awake 4 hours a day) so I was able to spend a bit more time with the little guy while he was getting adjusted to his new tree.

Then it was off to Phillip Island, a small island southeast of Melbourne, with a beautiful rugged coastline and gorgeous scenery. It’s home to the cutest little penguins and The Penguin Parade, where hundreds of these miniature sized penguins come waddling home from the ocean after a day of fishing. It was an incredible sight to see and despite not being able to take one home with me, it was the perfect ending to the day.
